Been into airbrushing for about 4 months now, was looking for a hobby/pastime to while away the cold winter months, truth is I am doing up a classic bike and I seen an airbrush as being an ideal tool for general touch up work, those little bottles of touch-up paint are ghastly, but the way it went it has took off in an other direction, could always draw/sketch, just a talent I've always had, was messing about in the garage one day with the ...

Hi

I've just seen on this forum that the AB series airbrushes are not compatible with solvent based paints. ( I've copied the post below)

I bought a AB-280 kit from you on Friday off your E Bay site and payed via paypal. I dont think you have despatched this yet so if its not suitable can you advise on a suitable gravity feed airbrush with hose and connector for a compressor to get started with. Thanks and sorry for the mix up

Hi All,

I am a TV make up artist/tutor, who's just discovered this brilliant forum!

I mostly work in high-def TV/film, and have become extremely busy, due to my airbrush usage.

(Actors love it because it makes them look flawless!)

I have only been airbrushing for about a year, and I still have a lot to learn.

I recently discovered the Ed Hubbs tutorial clips on youtube and was blown away with what can be achieved with an airbrush (even though he works on cars - not faces like me!) I learned ...

Hi Tim (and all)

I haven't been airbrushing for very long (about a year) I work on actors & models in TV/film (mostly high-definition, so brush strokes are eliminated.)

I use the airbrush to apply bases, do contouring work to the face and apply warmth to the cheeks/face. This is great and I'm really happy with it. However, I'd like to be more creative with the airbrush now. (I don't mean stencils or body art) but i'd love to do creative eye make up and I'm finding my airbrush isn't ...

Hello

i've just joined the forum and have a couple of questions.

1. Most of the use of my airbrush is to paint scale models (Tamiya and the like) using acrylic paints. The AB model that i have (a 130 i think) has a smaller nozzle (0.35mm) than the revell i use at the moment, this has meant that i have had to thin the paint far more than i would normally. Subsequently it has taken me a fair while to get an even coat on a larger component. Am i doing something wrong? Also i have had to turn the ...

Have been studying your website, and have come to the conclusion that all I will need will be a single action airbrush??

Not to good with doing two things as once with my fingers!!

I wont be doing the painting 24 hours a day, only occasionaly, so I will be using the propellant cans!!.

Hi Russel

Weathering is not to difficult, like everything else in life it requires a little (lots of) practice. It seems that you do plastic kit modeling but basic technique is the same through-out.

On each individual model, consider what the original will do for a living. Is it, for instance, a tank? is it well maintained? is it neglected? Is it in a war? It maybe brand new issue on its first day of service.

Paint an athentic undercoat, it will only need to be thin. Then paint your ...

Few more questions: After cleaning....

1) Is it good to leave a bit of cleaner (Createx) in the airbrush or should it all be rinsed out before leaving to dry.

2) I read somewhere that a few drops of window cleaner is good to leave in as it supposedly acts as a lubricant....?

3) Is it better to thin water based acrylics with cleaner (Createx) or water?

My Chinese airbrush has a problem that I think MAY affect other similar products. The MAC valve to adjust the airflow on the "chin" of the airbrush gives full air or no air. There is no halfway measure. This is seen on copys of the Iwata Custom Micron CM-C Plus etc. The fix is below.

Now I hate to boast however the Custom Micron "copy" that I have now works 100%. The mac valve seating had a burr on it and I drilled that out so the nipply thing in the adjuster now ...

Hopefully this will help others in the same situation...

I'd like to get an airbrush for scale model work (water based acrylics) and I'm looking at the following models:

AB-130 Entry level but has the important fluid flow regulator.

AB-132 I like the side cup as it allows a better view and wider range of painting angles but does it have any drawbacks like using all the paint efficiently?

AB-180 Lots of twiddly bits (more control hopefully) Why is this more ...

I've been using an airbrush to paint scale models (1/35 military and 1/12 bikes) for a little while and i've just purchased an AB135-A. Also got an AB with a larger gravity cup (not sure what number) which i've bought a while ago but have only just started using. Quality looks good and having found this forum i'm looking forward to picking the brains of you all as to how to get the best out of them.

Hi Tim,

Few questions to start things off:

1) I understand the difference of rubber vs teflon 'o'rings affecting the price of an airbrush and general quality of materials but are the Iwata's really worth so much more than the equivalent spec AB?

2) I'm a bit concerned about spares for the AB range as you seem to be the only ones having them. I believe the AB's are made in Korea(?) and are often re-branded. Are the spares available under a different name than AB?

3) Just noticed on ...

I'm seeking a good starter airbrush. I intend to use it for feathering cammo patterns on vehicles for a 28mm scale wargame. I may expand my usage in the future to include large beasties and the like but right now I am after a good affordable (cheap!) airbrush as I don't intend to use it for anything other than vehicle cammo patterns and I won't be painting more than 10 or so of those in the near future.

I think that my limited use would make using cans of compressed air more ...
