New airbrush purchase?
Hi Tim (and all)
I haven't been airbrushing for very long (about a year) I work on actors & models in TV/film (mostly high-definition, so brush strokes are eliminated.)
I use the airbrush to apply bases, do contouring work to the face and apply warmth to the cheeks/face. This is great and I'm really happy with it. However, I'd like to be more creative with the airbrush now. (I don't mean stencils or body art) but i'd love to do creative eye make up and I'm finding my airbrush isn't giving a fine enough spray for this. (I have 2x brushes - both Iwata - R 4500 and R 2500) What would you recommend I look to buy as a third airbrush?) It would be for very fine, detail work around eyes mostly.
Thanks in advance

Re: New airbrush purchase?
im not familiar with those iwata codes although i am familair with iwata airbrushes
the brush you require will depend on the paints your are useing and the detail you require
take a look at the Harder Steenbeck range the evolution 2in1 is very verstile unit that will cope with a wide range of paints and also give some extremly good detailing
it sounds like you will need around a 0.2 unit which would be the iwata hpb range or possible a micron b if you want splash out nearly £300 ,the H&S infinity is also a very nice option for extreme detail but much lower in price ,another good option is the Rich apollo 0.2 which i feel are superior to iwata anyway but cheaper

thank you Paul,
For such a speedy reply and your good advice.
I use only water based paints at the moment but I'm toying with the idea of investing in some silicone based paints, based on all the hype!
I will look into the guns you've recommended - incidentally, what do you use?
Everyone I speak to in the make-up world sings the praises of Iwata, but that's possibly because of the 'name' and if you know everyone else uses it - it must be good, right!
But I'm willing to try a new name brand, so I'll check out the guns you've mentioned.
Thanks again,
Cocopanda (aka Mandimakeup).

Re: New airbrush purchase?
iwata make decent enough equipment however i feel they are way overpriced especialy in the UK i have both an iwata hpb highline and a HP G6 mini gun the mini guns definatly isnt worth the current RRP and the HPB didnt compare to my Rich AB200 which is a far cheaper airbrush ,still made in Japan and of equal quality to the Iwata to the point that certain parts are identical even down to machine tooling marks
that aside i have japanese Hohmi brushes ,olympos a couple of canadian hobbypens a vintage conopois which puts a lot of modern stuff to shame ,two H&S evolutions an infinity two Colani guns ,a mike learn Mojo and probaly a couple more i havent mentioned
i have owned a few other brands as well but overall H&S are a very good deal plus spares are cheaper than the high end jap stuff especialy iwata
the infinity is "the" one however if your not bothered about the extra gimmicks then the cheaper Focus uses the same airbrush body and will accept the infinty 0.15 nozzle set up ,it then sprays exactly as the infinity with the same superb detailing ability
the great thing about H&S is the amount of nozzle set ups going from 0.15 all the way to 0.6 ,the set ups can be changed in seconds to go from one aplication to another and even the cup size can be varied as they use screw in cups from micro all the way to 150 ml if needed
and no i dont sell em or get paid to promote them either LOL
i think a lot of poeple believe if they arent useing Iwata they are somehow missing out ,its just not true and with the exception of the Micron i have found them to be average units that spray OK but generaly need a tune up to get them to react better
pound for pound H&S are definatly a better deal IMO
hope this rambleing helps

thank you Paul,
I will be checking out the H & S infinity airgun.
As for silicone body paints - I'm not sure if they're suitable for anything else but skin, if you want to check here's a few website addresses to some of the more well known brands in my field:
www.temptu.com
www.airbasemakeup.com
www.mist-air.com
thanks again for the advice,
